Emily Fairlie Baker is drawn to the ritualistic and seasonal process of naturally dyeing fabric using foraged and homegrown plants and connecting to landscapes through all the colours that are hidden within barks, flowers and leaves. Emily runs Market Place Print Studio in Cockermouth with her partner Jack where she teaches block printing and holds a monthly art circle called open art for people to gather and explore their creativity free from judgement or expectation.

Workshops Saturday & Sunday

Naturally dye ribbons of fabric in brewing pots of plants with Emily. Slow down and sip herbal teas whilst we peer into vats of madder root (for reds and dusty pinks), onion skin (for warm yellows) and cutch (for browns and rust tones). We will tend these pots together; stirring, smelling, stewing fabrics until the colours impart. We will over-dye for deeper tones and use simple resist techniques to create patterns. You might stich your raggedy ribbon to the communal Sondering blanket, tie it in offering to our shared willow coffin, or take it away with you; cherish it, bury it, burn it, tie it to your rucksack as a memento mori.
