Jess olivia neil
creative writing workshop
Jess is a writer, producer and accredited funeral celebrant with a firm belief that death is a part of life we don't need to fear. She is interested in the healing power of words, which can be such a salve for hard times. She hopes to leave people with some tools they can take away and use in their everyday lives, peppered - as they undoubtedly are - with different kinds of loss.
Death with a capital D is not the only ending or experience of loss. We face small deaths all the time - the end of relationships, jobs, former versions of ourselves, changes in someone we love. But even though these losses are a standard part of life, we don't always have the time, space or language to process them, or how they make us feel. Particularly when they are unresolved or ambiguous. Through guided prompts and visualisations, Jess will help us explore what can happen when we write directly to loss and transform it into a place from which to begin.
